The Medical Laboratory Sciences program (MLS) at Palestine Polytechnic University stands out among similar programs in other Palestinian universities due to its affiliation with the College of Medicine and Health Sciences. It complements numerous academic programs supporting the healthcare sector and provides the community with trained and qualified staff for medical laboratories.
The Medical Laboratory Sciences program is at the forefront of health sciences, influencing health and medical policies in the areas of diagnosis and treatment, particularly with the advancements in molecular sciences and biotechnology. These breakthroughs significantly contribute to the diagnosis of genetic, infectious, and non-infectious diseases both pre- and post-birth.
Medical Laboratory Sciences will elevate the standard of health services in Palestine, offering exceptional healthcare to Palestinians, especially in various aspects of laboratory testing such as microbiology, blood and blood banking, tissues, glands, genetics, chemistry, and more, all conducted by university graduates.
The MLS laboratories at Palestine Polytechnic University are meticulously designed and equipped with various devices suitable for initial student training. This is complemented by intensive training in main hospitals across different provinces during the designated training period in the academic plan.
The College of Medicine comprises a team of academics specialized in various fields, along with a qualified and experienced training staff to supervise student training in hospitals and relevant health centers.
It is noteworthy that to obtain a bachelor's degree in medical laboratory sciences, students must successfully complete 132 accredited hours.
- To enhance the level of medical laboratory services in Palestine by integrating theoretical knowledge with appropriate professional training, preparing qualified technical leaders.
- To produce graduate students who are distinguished, ethically professional, and highly competent in using modern laboratory devices and tools.
- To keep pace with advanced teaching methods in disease detection, particularly in blood diseases, infectious diseases, immune diseases, and cancer, in line with the plans of the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
- To emphasize community service by focusing on the issues and needs of medical laboratories in Palestine.
- To promote a culture of scientific research and build research-qualified individuals by deepening the understanding of scientific research methods, problem-solving, and keeping up with future health challenges.
- To provide opportunities for outstanding students to pursue their scientific ambitions and higher studies for Master and Ph.D. in health sciences.
Upon earning a bachelor's degree in medical laboratory sciences, students are expected to demonstrate various skills and knowledge, including:
- Gaining theoretical and practical knowledge of laboratory sciences and effectively linking them with other medical sciences.
- Analyzing results related to diagnostic laboratory medicine using evidence and problem-solving.
- Demonstrating teamwork and collaborative skills for permanent laboratory diagnosis.
- Showing complete responsibility in choosing and conducting appropriate diagnostic analyses professionally.
- Applying electronic learning methods in educational and professional activities interactively.
- Demonstrating practical skills in diagnostic and statistical analyses when needed, safely and appropriately.
- Performing laboratory and diagnostic steps using an effective quality assurance approach.
- Communicating effectively with colleagues and hospital staff, including nurses, doctors, paramedics, and others.
Our graduates will be certified to work in the following fields:
- Medical field, including general or specialized medical laboratory specialists in areas of blood, biochemistry, or microbiology in hospitals and medical centers.
- Working in medical centers and private laboratories offering medical examination services.
- Industrial field, including companies producing and distributing laboratory devices or food products.
- Academic fields (Medical Colleges).
